Hit-and-Run Accident in North Philly Causes Serious Injuries to Temple University Security Guard

A security guard at Temple University, which is located in Philadelphia, PA, sustained significant personal injuries as a result of a car accident that may have been caused by another driver’s negligence.

The car accident occurred around 9:05 p.m. According to authorities, the victim was seated in a parked vehicle on 13th Street and Berks Street, near police headquarters in North Philadelphia, when another car crashed into him.

Immediately after reportedly slamming into the victim’s car, the driver of the other vehicle allegedly sped off and fled the scene of the accident. Witnesses at the scene dialed 911 and notified North Philadelphia police. Police then dispatched officers and emergency medical responders to the area. Law enforcement searched the area for the hit-and-run driver and soon located his vehicle on 11th Street and Diamond Street, just a few blocks away from the scene of the accident. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest.

Meanwhile, the Temple security guard was briefly treated at the scene of the car crash and then transported to nearby Temple University Hospital, where doctors treated him for neck and back injuries. The day after the accident, the injured guard remained hospitalized. Medical officials have not yet released any updates on his health condition.

Officials with Temple University, one of the major colleges in Pennsylvania, later said that the security guard was injured while sitting in his personal vehicle. At this time, authorities have not indicated whether the guard was on duty at the time of the car crash. Depending on whether the victim was performing job-related tasks at the time of the car accident, he may be able to file a workers’ compensation claim for benefits to cover medical bills, as well as compensation for lost wages if he misses time from work.

Additionally, the injured security guard may be able to file a third party claim against the driver of the other vehicle, or the other driver’s auto insurance company, in order to receive compensation for his injuries. This will depend on the exact cause of the crash, which has yet to be determined.
